The evolution of the classic mini PC – Shuttle presents the new XPC Barebone SB860R8

With the XPC Barebone SB860R8, Shuttle is launching the latest generation of its legendary 14-litre cube. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology for the cutting-edge Intel Core Ultra 200 desktop processors (“Arrow Lake-S”), up to 192 GB of DDR5 RAM and enormous storage capacities, the new flagship redefines the limits of compact desktop performance.

Shuttle, the pioneer in compact PC solutions, today announces the new XPC Barebone SB860R8. The latest model in the legendary R8 series combines the timeless, robust design of the distinctive 14-litre aluminium chassis with next-generation performance architecture. Designed for demanding workstation applications, IT professionals, system integrators and reliable use as a compact mini-server, the SB860R8 offers uncompromising specifications in a minimal footprint.

Future-proof platform with Intel Core Ultra 200

At the heart of the SB860R8 is support for the new Intel Core Ultra 200 Series 9/7/5 processors (‘Arrow Lake-S’ on the LGA1851 socket) with a base TDP of up to 125 watts. Thanks to the modernised architecture, users benefit from extremely high energy efficiency whilst maintaining maximum computing power.

For data-intensive multitasking scenarios and virtualisation, four DDR5 slots are available, supporting a maximum of 192 GB of RAM (4 × 48 GB modules). This means the compact system easily bridges the gap with large, traditional tower systems.

The compact storage marvel

Despite its footprint of just 33.2 × 21.5 × 19.0 cm, the SB860R8’s brushed aluminium chassis proves to be a true storage powerhouse. It offers native support for up to four internal 3.5-inch SATA hard drives (with RAID 0/1/5/10 support) and is therefore ideally suited as a high-performance network-attached storage (NAS) device or mini-server.

In addition, the motherboard features two extremely fast M.2-2280 slots for NVMe SSDs, one of which already supports the forward-looking PCIe Gen 5.0 x4 standard to guarantee maximum data transfer rates. A third M.2 slot (Type 2230) is specifically designed for the easy retrofitting of Wi-Fi modules.

Enterprise-level connectivity and expandability

To meet the high demands of professional environments, the SB860R8 is equipped with a wide range of modern interfaces:

  • Dual 2.5G networking: Two RJ45 ports with tried-and-tested Intel i226-LM controllers ensure maximum network security, failover capability and high-performance teaming.
  • Multi-display support: Via the processor’s integrated graphics unit, up to four UHD displays can be operated simultaneously via two HDMI ports (including HDMI 2.1 with 8K support) and two DisplayPort 1.4a ports.
  • High-end graphics cards: A PCI Express x16 Gen 5 slot provides space and sufficient performance for modern dual-slot graphics cards. An additional PCIe x4 Gen 4 slot is available for further expansion cards.
  • Connection variety: A total of 10 USB ports (including high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the front and rear) offer maximum flexibility for peripherals and external storage devices.

Cool and reliable in continuous operation

Stable operation under full load is ensured by the proven Shuttle heatpipe cooling system, featuring 10 heatpipes and three temperature-controlled fans. A highly efficient, integrated 500-watt power supply with 80 PLUS Gold certification delivers the necessary power whilst ensuring energy-efficient operation.
