Introduction of complete standardisation revolutionises the notebook market and improves the competitiveness of many companies
The Shuttle Ecosystem features two product offerings, SPA (Shuttle PCB Assembly) and μSPA (Micro SPA), designed for a complete line up of entry-level and mainstream notebook products. SPA is meant for mainstream notebooks from 13.3” and above in size, while μSPA includes notebooks from 10.1”.
Up to now, only large brands with high production volumes have been able to specify in detail the size, configuration and design of the products that were going to be sold under their own brand name. With the Ecosystem targeted at local OEM and small/medium brands, Shuttle has identified this potential and come up with a solution by transferring the modular principle of standardised components from the desktop market to notebooks. Since this is an open format, other manufacturers can easily be integrated into the Notebook Ecosystem and the range of model variants continues to grow. A large network of connected partners in each production segment now enables the creation of custom-built, affordable notebooks in small series runs that precisely match customer requirements.
At the heart of the Notebook Ecosystem is the standardised mainboard, developed and manufactured by Shuttle. This modular system allows a choice of various platforms and the combination of different chipsets and processors results in an enormous spectrum of model variants. The variety is growing exponentially as each constellation offers the choice of 10" and 17.3" (25.4 cm and 43.9 cm) displays, one or two drives and several graphics options. This means that approximately 200 combination options will be available in 2010.
This doesn’t yet include other options such as design, logo, battery, webcam, 3G/modem, keyboards etc. which will extend the number of possible configurations even more.
This revolutionary diversity makes it possible to order the precise configurations to achieve maximum success on the specific regional market.
